So, I left this running for a little while - it didn't crack the two passwords I had in the hashes file, and it made the fans louder, I finally just killed it… I knew what one of the passwords was, still have no idea about the second.

It looks like my little VM without a dedicated video card can only attempt a bit under 3K guesses per second. As a brute force, that's about 248 million per day, so about 13.4 billion tries over the 54 days I left this running. Maybe if I left it running another day or two.
